Chrmn. Brown called the meeting to order at 7:05 P.M.
Chairman Brown gave an overview of the proposed budget for the 2003-2004 fiscal year. He explained that the Town received a cut of approximately $500,000 in funding due to the Governor’s budget cuts. Revenues that had been projected at approximately $75,000 for the current year looks like it will only be $40,000. A good portion of the budget increase is due to increased health insurance costs as well as a large Region #19 increase.
Dr. Berglund, Superintendent presented the budget proposal for the Board of Education. She handed out a sheet detailing where the Board plans to take the money that was cut from their budget by the Board of Finance. She is confident that these cuts will have no adverse affect on the quality of education services. Dr. Berglund then answered questions from members of the audience.
John Patton, First Selectman presented the Selectmen’s budget proposal. This accounts for roughly 75% of the Town Budget. He explained that since presenting his initial budget request the Board of Selectmen has approved measures that will save the Town approximately $50,000 including. Much of the savings is the result of closing the transfer station to commercial trash haulers. He then answered questions from members of the audience.
The Board of Finance then answered any remaining questions from the audience.
The hearing adjourned at 8:00.
Respectfully submitted,
Heidi A. Leech
